Where the data comes from
Public registers, each used under its own licence. Nothing is bought from a list broker and nothing is scraped from behind a login.
| Company records | Companies House: new companies, registered offices and filings. |
| Local registers of businesses | The food hygiene registers every council publishes, and council business rates lists and licensing registers where the council allows commercial re-use. |
| Regulators | The health, care and childcare regulators in England, Scotland and Wales, the registers for vehicle operators and MOT garages, and the Environment Agency's register of waste carriers (contains Environment Agency information © Environment Agency and/or database right). |
| Buildings and energy | Official statistics on buildings, energy use and broadband coverage. |
| Business listings | Open map data listing businesses and their public phone numbers. |
Most are published under the Open Government Licence. Where a council's register didn't state a licence we could use commercially, we asked, and we read it only once the council said yes: 35 councils' rates lists and 10 licensing registers so far (as of 25 September 2026).
Every file names the sources its rows came from, with their licences, and every row says where it was seen and when. The full list of sources, with each licence and each council's permission, comes with a sample and is yours to check before you buy: ask for it.
No personal data is taken from any source: no names of directors, licence holders or applicants who are people, and no home addresses.
