New companies in Wealden

Wealden saw 23 new companies incorporated in the week of 19 October to 25 October 2026, 6% below the year-earlier weekly average (adjusted for companies dissolved since). About 11 of them are expected to trade, judging by what happened to similar companies; 22% were registered at a mass-formation or virtual-office address, so 18 were formed at their own address. Among companies formed in the last 8 weeks, 24 already have a website verified as theirs and 2 have registered food premises.

What happens to them

Of the 2,039 companies formed in Wealden between January 2022 and September 2023 at their own address, 62% were still on the register three years later and 45% had filed trading accounts, ranking 46th of 357 councils (UK: 51% and 35%; South East: 57% and 39%). Most of the rest never traded: they missed their first confirmation statement and were struck off at about seventeen months. Wealden ranks joint 205th of 361 councils for the number of new high street companies in 2025.

Across the UK, the trade codes chosen by new companies rose 36% between 2019 and 2025, partly because founders now pick more codes for each company, so a rise in one trade can simply keep pace with the register. A company can choose up to four trade codes, so one company can appear in two rows and is counted in the total once for each. Pub and bar sites in Wealden registered for VAT or PAYE, as counted by the Office for National Statistics each March (UK Business Counts, SIC 56302, rounded to 5). In March 2026, 65% of them were run by a company.
